octo is a different kind of tool site. We don't track you, we don't store your data, and we don't have a business model that depends on knowing who you are. Every tool runs entirely in your browser — your files, text, and images never leave your device.

1. Data Collection
octo does not collect, store, transmit, or process any personal data on our servers. All tool operations run entirely within your web browser using client-side JavaScript and WebAssembly. When you use our tools:
- No files, text, images, or other content you process are sent to any server.
- No personal information (name, email, IP address) is collected or stored.
- No cookies are set for tracking or advertising purposes.
- No form submissions, account sign-ups, or login credentials are required.
2. Local Processing
Every tool on octo operates 100% client-side. When you upload a file, paste text, or input data, it stays in your browser's memory. Nothing is transmitted over the network. When you close the tab or navigate away, all processed data is gone. We use no server-side processing, no cloud functions, and no third-party APIs for tool functionality.
3. Analytics & Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party tracking service. We do not collect telemetry, fingerprint browsers, or use tracking pixels. We rely on basic, privacy-respecting server logs (required for serving the website) that contain no personally identifiable information and are not used for profiling.
4. Cookies
octo uses a single functional cookie to store your theme preference (light/dark mode). This cookie is set only when you explicitly toggle the theme, and it contains no personal data. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party cookies.
5. Third-Party Services
octo loads web fonts and assets from CDNs (such as Vercel/Next.js infrastructure) required to render the website. These services may have their own privacy policies. However, no data you process with our tools is ever sent to these or any other third-party services.
6. Open Source
Every line of code powering octo is open source and publicly auditable. You can inspect exactly what the tools do, verify that nothing leaves your browser, and even contribute improvements. No black boxes, no proprietary magic, no trust required.
7. Data Retention
Since we never collect your data, there is nothing to retain. Your processed content exists only in your browser tab and is destroyed when you close it. We retain no backups, logs, or copies of content you process with our tools.
8. Children's Privacy
octo does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since we do not collect any personal data from anyone, our services are safe for users of all ages without restriction.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We will never weaken our privacy commitments — future updates can only strengthen them.

Why local-first?
Every file you upload to a typical online tool passes through a server — often on the other side of the world. That means someone else has a copy. With octo, there is no server. Processing happens in your browser tab using WebAssembly and modern JavaScript APIs. When you close the tab, everything is gone.
Why no tracking?
Most free tools are free because they sell your attention or your data. We think tools should just be tools. No analytics scripts, no tracking pixels, no cookies, no “optional” data collection. We don't want to know who you are. We just want you to have good tools.
